SICKNESS POLICY

To ensure the health and well-being of all children in our care, we follow the guidelines set forth by the Committee on Control of Infectious Diseases of the American Academy of Pediatrics. A child should not attend our facility if they have experienced any of the following symptoms within the past 24 hours:

⦁ Any Fever: A documented temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher is considered a fever.

⦁ Vomiting or Diarrhea: Any instances of throwing up or loose stools within the last day

⦁ Symptoms of a Common Cold: This includes symptoms such as a runny nose, persistent cough, or other cold-like symptoms.

⦁ Symptoms of Usual Childhood Diseases: These may include, but are not limited to, chickenpox, scarlet fever, and similar contagious conditions.

⦁ Sore Throat: Any complaint of pain or discomfort in the throat area.

⦁ Croup: A common respiratory condition characterized by a barking cough and potential difficulty breathing.

⦁ Any Unexplained Rash: Any skin rash that has not been diagnosed by a physician should be considered a reason to stay home.

⦁ Pink Eye Infection (Conjunctivitis): Symptoms include redness of the eye, discharge, and itchiness.

⦁ Any Skin Infection: This encompasses a variety of conditions such as boils, ringworm, impetigo, head lice, and hand, foot, and mouth disease. Please be aware that if your child has a skin infection, they will need to remain at home for two weeks after the initial outbreak, and potentially longer if visible spots persist.

If a child exhibits any signs of illness while in our care, the director will exercise discretion in making the decision to contact parents or guardians for immediate pickup. For certain communicable diseases, there may be a requirement for the child to remain at home for a longer duration. Please note that if you are unable to pick up your child within one hour due to illness or behavioral issues, this may lead to a suspension from our program.

Finally, please be aware that we are unable to administer any over the counter or antibiotic medications to children. We also ask that you refrain from sending any medications with your child for self-administration. If your child requires prescribed medication that is not an antibiotic, please discuss this with the director; we will evaluate each situation on a case-by-case basis to ensure safety and compliance. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community healthy.

When in doubt about your child’s health, we encourage you to apply the “Golden Rule” – treat others as you wish to be treated. This principle helps us maintain a healthy environment for everyone.
